Tuesday morning, June 18th... port of Bandol. Yes, we've been here at the beginning of the trip... you're not having "déjà-vu".

We arrived at 4 pm yesterday with a choppy sea and a very weak wind pushing... Perfect "motoring" at 6.5 knots!
Alain was undecided last night as to stay a day or not... The weather seemed favourable but no definite decision. This morning, I get up and Alain is scurrying to leave... "???" I go on the deck to do yoga and cool down because I was upset. Either he tells me he wants to go and that I be ready in the morning and maybe, if weather is NOT favourable we'll stay...

At 75 yrs old, I feel Alain could cool down a bit and enjoy life! Besides, this is supposed to be his vacations. So what's the big rush? Why always go, go, go? What about ENJOYING LIFE just for the sake of enjoying the good things in life?
After yoga, I simply told Alain that he can leave without me if he wishes... I'm going to get fresh bread and croissant and will enjoy my morning! Then we can leave if we still want to leave. And he tells me he's rushing because he thinks I want to finish this trip and had enough. Well, the major reason I had enough is because is way of enjoying life is not quite the same way I enjoy life. Not always easy to harmonize when we're a team... The choices have to be made at the beginning... I had made my choice not to go because of my gut feelings about our differences in looking at life... Alain convinced me to try for 2 weeks... Well I did... but he didn't really plan for the possibility I would call it quits after 2 weeks. I did, he didn't have a skipper who could replace me on short notice... and I didn't want him to be stranded in Corsica.
So, here we are, finishing the trip... and believe me, I will make sure I have a GREAT experience till the very last minute!
It has been perfect regardless of our differences. Alain is a very adaptable wise man and has seen all kinds in his life... so Gabriel is not much news in his incredible life experiences!!

Seems the Universe agreed with me because I fell upon the farmers market on the way to the Bakery... and even better, found some gorgeous local cherries... fleshy and full of taste! LIFE IS A BOWL OF CHERRIES... and these are definitely PERFECT! I had a special thought for my Sister Laurence, in Carmel, who always inspires me to ENJOY LIFE... and LOVES CHERRIES!!
So here's to Laurence and to enjoying life and staying one day here in the port of Bandol... just enjoying life!!

Below are a few entries in The Captain's Log Book.
Quite original! With drawings...
The one below is about "Gabriel's Country"... Alain has been going to all these ports and Corsica for over 10 years... So he has seen several times what I see for the first time. What is really different for him this time is "his skipper"... and the world his skipper lives in... Gabriel reminding Alain to see the positive in things... I've complained about how tiring it is to hear complaints about how things are not like they used to be or listening to his many stories of problems and close-calls and misses... all turned into jokes like laughing at life...
It's funny for a while but for "Gabriel... the seagull", it is too much. I follow a philosophy that is based on the belief and theory that we "co-create our daily reality according to every thought, word and emotion we have all the time".
That implies TO ME, to be AWARE and choose my thoughts and words... and if I want to co-create a positive, enjoyable experience, doesn't it imply to CHOOSE positive and pleasant thoughts too???

Some logs in the Captain's Journal de Bord... (I will translate a little later...)
My French friends will be able to read and have a laugh!

The saying at top left says: "My signal (the wi-fi signal floating around)... so you can enclose me in your computer!"

The saying below... probably Gabriel with his computer: "Come my little Wi-Fi"!" (Wi-Fi means "wireless internet connection from a Hot-Spot".

Tuesday, June 19th... the last stretch.
Weather looked on our side with winds from South-East which meant we possible could sail today... and if lucky, do the last stretch in one swoop, about 16 hours of sailing-motoring...
...left port of Bandol at 6:30am...

Turned out a gentle breeze pushed us along but not enough for the sails. It did add 1 knot to our speed and made it possible to make the trip in one shot with even time to spear! And to top it all, a Force 4 wind picked up in the afternoon, gloriously filling the sails and allowing us to SAIL home for the last 3 hours. A perfect day, sea and waves going West with us... PERFECT!

Arrived in Port Camargue-HOME for the sailboat at 7 pm... docked and tied.
Quickly, Alain somewhat tired after a long day navigating couldn't wait to uncork the champagne...

A toast to a wonderful, unique, and very special adventure with no problem and vicious weather. We got to know each other living a month side by side and we're still BOTH alive. There is hope for humanity after all isn't there?
