It had been 2 years... When Leyla and Charlie announced they were traveling and would be in Rome May 13-16th, they were too close to miss. With EasyJet Airlines, I can fly for about $90 US return trip!
But it was overlapping my sailing departure with Alain. We worked out the schedule and the trip to Rome became a reality.

Charlie and Leyla on St-Angelo Bridge

Leyla and Charlie were coming from Sacramento, CA and finishing a Carnival ship-repositioning cruise (repositioning cruises are deeply discounted!) in Senegal, then flying to Italy.
It was a smashing hit... and wine and champagne DID flow more than usual!
Somebody has to drink that Bacchus stuff that makes us feel happy for a little while!!

Leyla and Charlie

Looks nice, n'est-ce pas? Just for my friends... with chauffeur too!
Well, we pretended... It costs nothing and Leyla and Charlie looked very good even if they were not the newly weds who were doing a photo session by the castle (not in the picture).

It's nice to be rich!!

A happy reunion, precious time spent together rather than visiting...

Re-United... feels so good!

Sunday night, after a surprisingly delicious dinner at a Trattoria... mainly Anti-Pasto so gargantuesque that we made a dinner of it... with 2 bottles of good Italian wine of which, I forgot the name now! Got to write everything down and I didn't...
So we'll skip the memory blank part...

We walked back the St-Angelo bridge and I was looking for a glass of champagne to celebrate our reunion on Sunday, the 13th!!
Found a Bistro but they didn't have glasses of champagne. Only BOTTLES. Oh gees! What a shame. After 2 bottles of wine, we had to make sure we would get to our hotel room... even if it was 3 blocks away. It is a foreign city after all. We could bring the rest of the bottle home they said.
The bottle of champagne didn't make it to our room though. It was refreshing and most enjoyable, sitting in Rome, on the street at 10pm chatting away... and yes WE made it back to our rooms.

A glass of champagne... turns into a bottle!

And a special treat walking the bridge... That was going for dinner... at sunset.

Now, this was a VERY SPECIAL moment, just before I headed back to the airport. Leyla and Charlie left the next day.
They had carried a bottle of wine and champagne from California... to celebrate together! A very special token and most delicious! A 2003 Zinfandel that had such body and texture... Perfect for our Italian picnic!
